About

Current Role

I am the acting Head of the Radiology service area (until end of May 2026) at Tyks Medical Imaging, Turku University Hospital (Varha, the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland). The Radiology service area provides diagnostic imaging for the hospital and the region, covering emergency, inpatient, and outpatient radiology across multiple hospital sites.

As a clinical neuroradiologist, I have worked primarily in emergency radiology, reading acute brain and spine MRI, CT angiography for stroke, and trauma imaging. I also hold the title of Associate Professor of Radiology (dosentti) at the University of Turku.

Background

I received my medical degree from the University of Turku and specialized in radiology at Turku University Hospital. My doctoral thesis (2019) focused on the visualization and quantification of neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptors in the human brain using positron emission tomography, work that combined PET imaging, neuropharmacology, and computational methods.

After completing my PhD, I shifted focus from PET research toward clinical neuroradiology and AI applications in emergency imaging. Over the past several years, I have collaborated closely with colleagues on deep learning models for fracture detection, pulmonary embolism detection from CT angiography, automated MRI protocol selection, and MRI-based analysis of acute neck infections. I am now focused on bringing AI models (mainly commercial) to clinical production in a responsible way with proper HTA and QA follow-up.

Leadership and Education

I am currently pursuing an Executive MBA at Aalto EE, developing skills in healthcare management, strategy, and leadership. In my department leadership role, I focus on operational efficiency and AI integration into clinical workflows.

I teach radiology to residents at the University of Turku and radiologists around Finland, with emphasis on neuroimaging, emergency radiology, and the responsible use of AI in clinical practice.
